Report: Manchester City would like £378k-a-week man to make a decision on his future by Christmas

Manchester City fans could potentially be seeing Pep Guardiola oversee just one more season at the club – and a report has now shared when the club want him to make a decision on his future by.

Guardiola has just finished his eighth season at the Etihad Stadium after taking over at the club in the summer of 2016.

Guardiola has enjoyed a remarkable stint at City having won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four EFL Cups and one Champions League. He also won the UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup in 2023/24.

What Pep has done at City has been nothing short of amazing and for many, he is the greatest manager of all-time for all the success he has had, as well as the influence he’s had on the English game.

But some fear he could be coming to the end of his time at City. That said, there has also been some talk about him possibly extending.

Guardiola’s future has become a pretty big topic of conversation in recent weeks.

It has been suggested that the Spaniard may well move on once his current contract expires in the summer of 2025. He has seen his big rival Jurgen Klopp leave Liverpool, and Pep has also previously spoken about the relentlessness and intensity of Premier League management.

But there have also been whispers that Pep might sign an extension at City, perhaps to take him past 10 years at the club.

ESPN have reported on Thursday morning that City would like Pep to make a decision on whether to extend or not by Christmas.

The publication state that he is currently leaning towards leaving at the end of his current deal after the new expanded FIFA Club World Cup in 2025.

City are said to be conscious of how big a task it’ll be to replace £378,000-a-week man Guardiola, and they want to give themselves plenty of time to prepare for when it happens. Realistically, Pep leaving City is on a par with Sir Alex Ferguson leaving Manchester United – it’ll be a huge deal when it happens, and City need the right man to usher in a new dawn.

City need time to decide best Pep replacement

So City are looking to get an answer from Pep about his future before Christmas, which is understandable because the task of replacing him will be far from easy.

Guardiola has done remarkable things during his time at City, and whoever eventually replaces him has colossal shoes to fill.

If City are to continue their dominance, then getting the right successor to Pep is extremely important.

So far there have been links to the likes of Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann, Roberto De Zerbi and Michel, and it is anyone’s guess at the moment who could come in.

Whatever happens, City fans will forever be grateful to Pep for the incredible style of football and winning culture he has brought to the Etihad Stadium.
