'Nice try'... £40m Manchester United target now breaks silence over potential summer move to Old Trafford

One of the top Manchester United targets over the past year has now reacted when asked about his thoughts about a move to Old Trafford.

This summer the defence at Manchester United is set to be a priority after a campaign in which it was a glaring weakness.

With injuries plaguing the defence all season long, additions are expected and quite frankly needed at Old Trafford this summer.

The exit of Raphael Varane has only added to the need, with options narrowing. It could narrow further with Jonny Evans likely to see his contract expire and also possible sales to Victor Lindelof or Harry Maguire.

With this in mind, United are likely to need more than one centre-half and now one target who has been linked multiple times in the last year has broken his silence over making a move to Carrington.

Jean-Clair Todibo now speaks on potential Manchester United move

One centre-back who has looked like a real possibility for a while now, stretching back to summer 2023 is Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo.

The Frenchman has always seemed like a priority for United and the arrival of Ineos has only added to the likelihood of the deal happening.

With a reported asking price of just £40m, it’d be a fairly straightforward deal to do, with the same owners in play, and now the defender has been directly asked about the potential move.

During an interview with the Daily Mail, Todibo was asked about whether he wanted to move to United to which he had a quick response, which was ominous.

“I’m going to keep that for me! Nice try.”

Todibo would be a smart move, as he’s a known quantity for the new regime but is also world-class and would be of the desired quality to replace the outgoing Varane.

He also touched on the impact Ineos had at Nice, which reads as exciting news for United fans who might yet be convinced by Ineos.

“They changed a lot of things. They give us comfort, so there is a mood around the team to allow the team to succeed.

“They put a lot of importance on being around the players, to give them the opportunity to have the best performance they can.”

£80m could revolutionise the defence at Old Trafford

This summer, as we mentioned the centre-back position needs to be revitalised at Old Trafford after years of neglect.

After a campaign of conceding more shots than basically any other team in Europe’s top five leagues bar Sheffield United, serious work needs to be done.

With the addition of Todibo, United would have made a significant upgrade, but adding Jarrad Branthwaite for a reported £40m as well would be impressive.

This would leave United having spent a combined £80m on centre-backs this summer and revamping the position in the process.

All for the amount Maguire cost back in 2019, which says a lot about the value this duo would be if both snapped up.
