'In recent days': Alan Nixon claims Sunderland-linked manager has actually 'been offered' to multiple clubs

Alan Nixon has claimed that one Sunderland manager target has already been ‘offered to more than one club’.

Sunderland are 101 days into life without a permanent manager, while they are approaching a month since Mike Dodds ended his stint as interim coach.

There has been very little update on their pursuit of Michael Beale’s replacement, while rumours have continued to swirl about the likes of Will Still, Danny Rohl, Rene Maric and Bo Svensson.

However, their long list of targets is quickly getting shorter. Rohl has extended his stay at Sheffield Wednesday, Maric will join Vincent Kompany’s coaching staff and Svensson is set to move to Union Berlin.

Will Still has remained the most likely following his exit from Reims, however a recent report claiming he is ‘interested’ in the Lens job has left fans concerned.

There is one fresh name that has been thrown into the hat though, with former Young Boys coach Raphael Wicky now being linked with a move to Wearside.

The 47-year-old has been without a job since he was sacked by the Swiss outfit in March, but won the Swiss Super League and the Swiss Cup in the 2022-23 season.

Raphael Wicky will have plenty of options

While the unemployed manager could be a genuine possibility for Sunderland, journalist Alan Nixon has admitted there could be tough competition for his signature.

When asked about Wicky’s links to Sunderland, Nixon wrote on X: “Been offered to more than one club in recent days.”

Sunderland need to speed this up

Wicky had also beenlinked with a move to Burnley, which would surely be a more tempting offer than the Stadium of Light.

The former Switzerland international certainly isn’t a favourite to move to Turf Moor though, and if Burnley look elsewhere, then Sunderland would surely be in with a shout.

It is believed that the Black Cats still favour a move for Will Still though, but they need to speed up the process if they want to avoid losing both of their targets in quick succession.
