Qatar Airways named world's best airline

Qatar Airways has been named the world's best airline by an Australian aviation rating agency.

The airlineratings.com website said the Qatari flag carrier finished top of its list for 2024, ahead of Korean Air, Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific, Air New Zealand and the UAE's Emirates.

Agency executive Geoffrey Thomas said: "In our objective analysis Qatar Airways came out number one in many key areas, although it was a very close scoring for the top ten."

Qatar Airways passengers praised the airline's "consistency and high standard of service delivery," he added.

Key criteria for the ranking included fleet age, passenger reviews, profitability, safety rating, innovation and fleet orders.

The Qatari airline also topped the rating agency's business class ranking.

Air New Zealand won for the best economy class, while Singapore Airlines took home the best first class prize.

The UAE's Etihad Airways was judged the best environmental airline, with London-based easyJet winning the best European low-cost airline award.
