CareFest - a county-wide series of events for Hertfordshire’s older residents - is coming to Bishop’s Stortford Library on Thursday, June 13.
The county’s health and social care festival will provide pensioners, disabled people and unpaid carers with information and support.
The free, drop-in events are taking place in June, with some during Carers Week (June 10 to 16).
They have been organised as part of a collaboration between Hertfordshire County Council’s adult care services and libraries, HILS (Health & Independent Living Support), Carers in Herts, Herts Sports Partnership, and the NHS.
Statistics reported by Carers UK reveal that 82% of carers anticipate challenges to their physical and mental health, and nearly 60% say more recognition would improve their well-being.
CareFest is the response for more than 92,000 unpaid family and friend carers in Hertfordshire.
Attendees can enjoy food samples from HILS, ‘try before you buy’ aids and adaptations from occupational therapists and receive free activity aids from Herts Sports Partnership.
There will also be the opportunity for attendees to learn emergency CPR skills and get mental health support with an NHS talking therapist.
Cllr Tony Kingsbury, executive member for adult care, health and wellbeing, said: “These events are a fantastic opportunity for our residents to get the help and support that they may not yet be accessing. “We’re really pleased to partner with so many local organisations that can help our residents to live life independently.”
Chris Perera, the county council’s social care information librarian, said “These events are about helping us get the best out of our lives as we get older.
“It’s going to be really exciting to see so many health and social care providers under one roof and give people the opportunity to see what’s out there.
“If they’re as successful as we hope, we aim to make this an annual event in Hertfordshire libraries – so do come along!”
The event in Bishop’s Stortford Library on Thursday, June 13, takes place from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
