The United States and the Czech Republic on Thursday signed a memorandum in Prague to cooperate on combating disinformation campaigns.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and his Czech counterpart Jan Lipavský signed the agreement, which is aimed at countering Russia.

Blinken said the collaboration would help to "effectively deal with misinformation and disinformation, which is a poison injected into our democracies by our adversaries."

Lipavský said Russia is targeting democracies around the world with cyberwarfare, propaganda and other operations. He highlighted the pro-Russian propaganda network Voice of Europe, which the Czech Republic and the EU have recently placed on sanctions lists.

Blinken is in Prague until Friday and is set to take part in an informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers. He said the Czech Republic is still making an important contribution to the alliance, 20 years after joining.
