The Miami Dolphins have reportedly signed former first-round wide receiver Jaylen Waddle to a massive contract extension on Thursday, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter. The receiving star is inking a three-year extension for $84.75 million, which includes $76 million in guaranteed money. His new contract makes him one of the top-five highest-paid wide receivers in the league.
Waddle, the 25-year-old, 2021 first-round pick out of Alabama, had one more year left on his rookie contract when the Dolphins chose to exercise his fifth-year option. Now, instead of the fifth-year option, he’ll ink an extension that keeps him with the team through 2026.
He recorded his third consecutive 1,000-yard season since entering the league in 2023, and he did it in just 14 games. Through three seasons, Waddle has accumulated 251 catches, 3,385 yards and 18 touchdown receptions. He’s also added five receptions and 75 yards in postseason games.
Waddle is among the first group of receivers in his cohort to receive an extension this offseason. His peers, such as Justin Jefferson, CeeDee Lamb, Ja’Marr Chase, Brandon Aiyuk and Tee Higgins, are all still looking for their big paydays to come through.
Earlier in the offseason, the Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles dished out major deals for their No. 1 wide receivers. Amon-Ra St. Brown inked for an additional four years for $120 million, including $77 million guaranteed. Meanwhile, Eagles star AJ Brown signed a three-year extension for $96 million, making him the highest-paid receiver in the league. His $84 million in guarantees marked a new high for an NFL wide receiver.
