The Slovenian government has backed the proposal to recognize Palestine as a state, urging parliament to take a similar step, informs Associated Press.
"All the world should act in the direction of peace. The way to achieve peace is a two-state solution. The decision is not directed against anyone, not even Israel, but that it is a message of peace," stated Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob.
It is noted that the decision of the Slovenian government came two days after Spain, Norway, and Ireland recognized the Palestinian state. Accordingly, Slovenia could become the 10th member of the European Union to officially recognize Palestine as a state.
Recognition of Palestine as a state
Palestine is a region in the Middle East, with its territory divided into the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. As mentioned earlier, on May 28, Spain, Norway, and Ireland made decisions regarding the official recognition of the Palestinian state.
