Bishop’s Stortford Choral Society concert at Methodist Church on Saturday June 29

Bishop’s Stortford Choral Society (BSCS) has something to trumpet about this summer with a June concert programme packed with gloriously uplifting songs accompanied by a brass band drawn from the ranks of the Bishop’s Stortford Sinfonia, writes Helen Miller.

The choir is performing a range of jubilant songs including Gloria and Te Deum by John Rutter, who is one of the UK’s most celebrated living composers, as well as soaring coronation anthems including Hubert Parry’s I Was Glad, which was sung at the coronations of Edward VII, George V, Elizabeth II and King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

The concert will also feature a number of more reflective pieces to break up the fanfare and allow the audience a chance to get their breath back!

“Our summer concert is always a chance to perform a lighter and more upbeat programme and this is no exception,” says BSCS musical director Richard Brain.

“We’ve chosen a programme that is optimistic and joyful and should certainly gladden the hearts of our audience and put them in the right frame of mind for the summer holidays.”

So if you’re feeling a little “brassed off” right now, book your ticket and prepare to sit back and enjoy a show that’s guaranteed to lift your spirits.

The concert takes place at Bishop’s Stortford Methodist Church in South Street on Saturday June 29 at 7.30pm. Tickets priced £15 (students and under-16s free) are available online at www.singwithbscs.org.uk or on the door.
