Josh Jacobs tried to recruit Davante Adams back to Green Bay Packers

The question will go unanswered if it’s never asked. It’s why new Packers running back Josh Jacobs recently sent a text to former Green Bay receiver Davante Adams.

The two were teammates on the Las Vegas Raiders. One was one of the top running backs in the NFL while the other was one of the best receivers. So, want to play together again and move from Sin City to Title Town?

Jacobs told reporters in Green Bayabout the message he sent. “When I came out here … I sent him the little eyes emoji. I said, ‘You thinking about coming back?’ But man, he loved it.”

Obviously, Adams is staying with the Raiders, although he’s dropped hints from time to time that suggest he hasn’t always enjoyed it there. His stats suggest otherwise. Adams has exceeded 1,000 yards receiving in each of his two seasons with the Raiders. But at the same time, the team changed head coaches and has used multiple quarterbacks. Adams signed, in part, to catch passes from former Fresno State teammate Derek Carr. But last season he went from Jimmy Garoppolo to rookie Aidan O’Connell.

The Raiders likely are on an upswing, even after losing Jacobs to the Packers. And Green Bay definitely is on the way up based on how they ended last season. With new starter Jordan Love at quarterback, the Packers clinched the seventh seed in the NFC playoffs in their final regular season game. They then mauled the Cowboys at AT&T Stadium, then pushed the 49ers in San Francisco in the divisional round.

The team’s receivers were part of the reason the Packers got hot at the right moment in the season. They were young, talented and finally on the same page with Love.

Jacobs said he can see all their skills every day in OTAs.

“The receiving corps is crazy, man. I’m so excited just watching them,” Jacobs told reporters. “Any one of them can go at any moment.”

The Packers are in phase three of OTAs. Those continue through next week. Mandatory minicamp is June 11-13.

Jacobs said that being with the Packers these past few weeks has brought back his enthusiasm for football. The Raiders selected the former Alabama standout in the first round of the 2019 draft. He led the NFL in rushing in 2022 and has eclipsed 1,000 yards in three of his five seasons. But he had a long contract disagreement with the Raiders last off season.

“I feel like it was an emotional roller coaster,” the new Packers running back said. “So just to be somewhere stable and be at a place where you feel like you’re wanted, I think it’s huge. It definitely brings that joy back to the game.”
