Latest reports suggest Rangers hold £5m aces with more than three teams interested: view

No matter how much you might’ve been tempted to consider it, Sam Lammers will not be at Rangers next season.

The Dutch forward had a disastrous six-month stint in Glasgow in the first half of the campaign where Michael Beale’s new number 10 looked like a rabbit caught in the Ibrox floodlights.

Signed from Atalanta for a reported £3m, a return of two goals meant Rangers didn’t get bang for their buck and Sam Lammers was sent out on loan to Utrecht in January.

Since then the ex-Heerenveen and PSV forward has found his scoring touch with the reinvented striker scoring an impressive 11 goals for the Eredivisie side this season.

Breaking a 40-year-old consecutive game scoring record in the process.

Now, the latest reports have suggested that Rangers are set to sell Sam Lammers this summer.

But just how much should the Ibrox club be demanding?

Rangers hope to turn Lammers ‘profit’

According to the Rangers Review, Rangers will hope to turn a profit on Lammers this summer.

This comes with several clubs interested in the 27-year-old striker, including current loan side Utrecht.

The Eredivisie club’s technical director has been clear that Sam Lammers is one of their main summer targets but that the player’s wages could yet prove a stumbling block.

On top of Utrecht, the report claims ‘several’ Dutch sides want to sign Lammers with two unnamed European clubs also monitoring the player.

Rangers are in a position of strength with regards Lammers, who signed a three-year contract at Ibrox, but you get the feeling it’s the best outcome for everyone should the striker move on.

The report also claims that Lammers, who claims playing as a number 9 at Utrecht has been behind his upswing in form, has already spoken to Rangers about his future.

This comes after the Dutchman sparked debate regarding a return by mentioning imminent discussions earlier in May.

Rangers hold striker aces

The question then becomes, how much should Rangers be demanding for the striker?

Well with a number of interested parties it is fair to say that Rangers will likely recoup at the very least the money they paid Atalanta for Lammers’ services.

Anywhere between £3m and £3.5m will do that but the suggestion the Gers want to turn a profit will interest fans.

Rangers have a big summer of investment ahead and getting Lammers off the wage bill with an extra cash boost can only be viewed as a positive.

Given the Dutchman’s form, and clear technical ability, Rangers could well demand between £4m and £5m for the striker depending on which Dutch clubs are interested.

Goalscorers are football’s greatest commodity and at the Eredivisie level, Sam Lammers has proven himself as lethal as it gets.

After years of cutting the chord with failed signings, it would be nice if we managed to negotiate a settlement which is advantageous to Rangers for once.
