The 'categorical no’ involving Mikel Arteta's future after 'verbal' Arsenal agreement

Arsenal fans have now been given more clarity on where the club and Mikel Arteta stand on the issue of his future.

Mikel Arteta does not have long left to run on his current Arsenal contract.

As things stand, the Spanish coach will be out of contract in just a year’s time. This situation has given rise to rumours that he may be approached by Manchester City when Pep Guardiola takes his leave from the Etihad Stadium, as reported by The Mirror.

Like Arteta, Guardiola is currently due to be out of contract next summer.

However, none of Arteta’s recent words have suggested that he has any intention of leaving the Emirates Stadium dugout any time soon. He has built a solid relationship with fans of the North London outfit, and has a strong connection with the club from his playing days when he featured in the middle of the park for the Gunners.

After his side narrowly missed out on winning the Premier League title this season, as they were beaten to that triumph by Manchester City on the final day of the campaign, Arteta promised Arsenal fans that the best is yet to come. This vow certainly suggests that he intends to stick around for some time yet.

Arsenal fans given update on Mikel Arteta contract situation amid Manchester City rumours

However, Arsenal fans could be forgiven for being nervous by the temptation that a switch to the Etihad Stadium might hold for Arteta. After all, the Cityzens have been the dominant force in English football in recent years, and have access to enormous financial resources.

However, journalist Ben Jacobs has now put those fears to rest. Speaking to Bhavss14 on YouTube, the reporter stated: “Virtually every Arsenal renewal, on the player side, we knew about months before it was officially announced and that’s just because once you’ve basically got in a room and said we’re going to continue together, the terms don’t have to be rushed. You’re not worried about any competition, and that’s where we’re at.

“I’m told that Arteta has already given a verbal indication to the Arsenal hierarchy that he wants to extend…[could he replace Guardiola?] I’m told that’s a categorical ‘no’, that Arteta won’t manage now at another Premier League club.”

Why Mikel Arteta has unfinished business at Arsenal

This news will be welcomed by Arsenal supporters. Arteta has transformed the club, and has already done an awful lot of impressive work, but he very much still has unfinished business in North London. He has made Arsenal contenders for the biggest prizes in the game once again, now he needs to lead them to silverware.
