The Double might be the next big thing in motorsports! Josef Newgarden is interested in attempting it himself after seeing Kyle Larson. Could Newgarden be competitive in the NASCAR Coca-Cola 600?

When it comes to the best drivers regardless of series in the world, you could argue that in the top three or top five would be Max Verstappen, Kyle Larson, and Josef Newgarden. Many may not agree, but it would be a valid argument to make.

But a stock car on an oval is a lot different than what Newgarden experiences in the IndyCar. Then again, he is also the Oval King in the series. No one is better than Newgarden when it comes to tracks like Iowa, Texas, Gateway, and lately, Indy.

Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports reported that Newgarden is interested in attempting The Double. He also hopes that Larson gives it another try.

Imagine the hype and the buildup that you could bill a Newgarden vs. Larson Double? Two of the best drivers in American motorsports – one, the top of IndyCar, the other, the top of NASCAR.

The storylines would be endless. Josef Newgarden, the Nashville driver against Kyle Larson from California. Team Penske against Hendrick Motorsports! Rick vs. Roger. As long as the weather cooperates, it would quite possibly be one of the best things to happen in racing maybe ever.

Not since the days of Mario Andretti, AJ Foyt, and others who raced whatever, whenever. They have the talent, the teams have the resources, let’s see it happen.

Josef Newgarden vs Kyle Larson in The Double?

Let’s just say that this does happen. Josef Newgarden runs The Double in the same year that Kyle Larson attempts it again. Team Penske and Hendrick. Who comes out on top in that situation?

It really depends. Clearly, Larson would get more practice in IndyCar than Newgarden would get in NASCAR. With the lack of practice, the attempt would be difficult. Then again, Newgarden understands ovals, at least for IndyCar he does. I believe his transition wouldn’t be so difficult.

Clearly, Newgarden would be a potential winner in the Indy 500. We saw Larson run with top-5 speed before his pit lane penalty. But could he have made any move better than what Pato O’Ward put on Newgarden? I am uncertain.

Then again, what chance does Newgarden have to win the Coke 600? I would put it very low. Probably lower than Larson’s chances of winning Indy. Would Chevy have an issue with Newgarden racing a Ford in NASCAR?

Lots of questions but I would love to see Newgarden attempt The Double.
