Link Jarrett on hosting a regional: ‘You feel like it’s a reward’

Link Jarrett and Florida State baseball had cause for celebration following the NCAA Baseball Tournament selection show, which saw the Seminoles slotted No. 8.

That eighth spot takes on added purpose, because it is the final seed which guarantees a team to host in both the regional and super regional rounds, should FSU get there. So long as they win their regional in Tallahassee, Florida State will then host a three-game super regional series the very next weekend against the winner of another regional.

“Well, right now, you feel like it’s a reward,” Jarrett said of Florida State’s selection in the top eight, noting that such achievements are the ultimate goal. “The big picture for me is the most important thing, and we approach every one of our games in essence to get to this moment.”

Jarrett went on to detail just how brutal FSU’s gauntlet was this year.

“If you don’t take care of business on the front end, on your weekends, in the middle of the week, those midweek games are tough here — and then you piggyback off that right into either coming off of an ACC weekend or entering one. The stress on the bullpen is very difficult.”

Getting through that tough schedule means the benefit of playing at home this time of year, an advantage Link Jarrett doesn’t take lightly.

“So, this is a reward. And if you do your job and continue to play well, you’ll be at home two weekends in a row. Which, it’s easier to to win in your home park, any coach will tell you that. You’re familiar with it, you have the fans here on your side, and our fans’ impact. And we will need them to be impactful this weekend, as they have all year. So right now, this is a reward.”

But Jarrett won’t spend all weekend basking in the rewards of the regular season, because it’s time to go earn the right to host for another week.

“Now, when you strap it on, I guess what do they say, noon on Friday, then the reward is over. Like, now you have a a really talented Stetson team. I think they won 40 games and they’re really good and we’ve seen it, and they beat us. They could have beat us twice. So we know we have our hands full.”

The path to success certainly doesn’t get any easier in the postseason, but it is a little bit easier to get to Omaha as a regional and super regional host.
