The Vatican believes that allowing Ukraine to strike Russia with Western weapons could lead to an “uncontrollable escalation”, according to Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin.

"I think this possibility (of the strikes on the Russian territory) must worry all those who have the fate of our world at heart. This could entail an escalation that no one will be able to control any longer," he said.

He reminded us that the Vatican works on a humanitarian level. Currently, the main focus is on the return of Ukrainian children from Russia. In his opinion, "there is no other room".

Strikes on Russia

One of the conditions for the transfer of long-range weapons to Ukraine from Western allies was that Ukrainian soldiers would not use them to strike Russia.

Now the situation is beginning to change. Several Western countries have announced that they are allowing Ukraine to use their weapons to strike Russian territory.

In particular, French President Emmanuel Macron has stated the necessity to allow Ukraine to strike Russian military bases.
