One of Jurgen Klopp's last Liverpool signings is now worth more than Arsenal star Declan Rice

One current Liverpool player is now said to be more valuable on the transfer market than Arsenal’s record signing Declan Rice.

The Reds looked like the favourites to win the Premier League title at one point in the 2023/24 season, but a terrible run of results in the business end of the campaign cost them that opportunity.

However, there are still a lot of positives to take, including the performances and potential of one of Jurgen Klopp‘s last signings at Liverpool.

Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai overtakes Declan Rice in transfer value

Liverpool signed Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig after triggering his £60 million release clause (BBC) in the summer of 2023. He was Klopp’s antepenultimate signing as Reds boss.

The Hungary international became an instant fan favourite at Anfield. He played really well in the middle of the park and impressed everyone.

Szoboszlai earned a lot of praise for his performances early in the season, but his form did drop as the season went on. He finished the campaign with just seven goals and four assists in all competitions.

His poor form led to Klopp giving him just one start in his final seven Premier League games.

That, however, doesn’t seem to have impacted Szoboszlai’s transfer value, as CIES Football Observatory reveal it is considerably higher than what Liverpool paid for him in 2023.

The Hungarian is said to be worth €108 million (£91.87m) today.

Arsenal star Declan Rice, on the other hand, has been valued at €103 million (£87.62m), which is less than what the Gunners paid for him in 2023 – £100m plus £5m in add-ons (BBC).

Five other top midfielders who are less valuable than Szoboszlai

Arsenal star Rice, in many people’s eyes, is the best midfielder in the Premier League.

The Englishman had an amazing debut season at the Emirates, and we’re sure even the most positive Liverpool fans will agree that he was better than Szoboszlai.

However, the Hungarian is said to be more valuable than Rice as well as a bunch of other top-class midfielders across Europe.

Real Madrid star Aurelien Tchouameni is one of them – his transfer value stands at €107 million (£91m), according to the data released by CIES.

Manchester City’s Rodri and Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes are below Szoboszlai too, with transfer values of €106 million (£90.1m) and €104 million (£88.4m) respectively.

Chelsea’s big-money midfield signing Enzo Fernadez is said to be worth €100 million (£85m), while Szoboszlai’s Liverpool pal Alexis Mac Allister has been given a value of €98 million (£83.3m).
