‘Don’t understand it’: Sam Allardyce baffled by how quick ‘unbelievable’ Man City player actually is

Sam Allardyce has said that he can’t believe how fast one Manchester City player is.

The Citizens brought an end to their latest season by winning their sixth Premier League title in seven years before losing the FA Cup final to Manchester United.

Now though, a number of City’s players are expected to be involved in the next European Championship, which is set to kick off on June 14.

Looking ahead to this significant period of international football, one former Premier League and England manager has shared his thoughts on one particular City figure who is likely to be involved in the Euros.

Speaking in a recent episode of the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Allardyce had this to say about Walker when discussing potential inclusions for England’s squad ahead of the upcoming tournament in Germany.

He said: “He’s unbelievable, [as] he gets older, he gets quicker, I don’t understand it.

“I think that he has just shown everybody that if you get into your 30s and you look after yourself properly, you can still play because the age seems to be coming down in the last few years.

“If you’ve got all that experience and if you keep your pace, you stay in the game. You stop playing football when you can’t run anymore.”

Walker is one of the fastest players on the planet

Having recently turned 34, the right-back now has 395 Premier League games under his belt, 301 of which have been with City.

In terms of his pace, the Englishman registered the highest top speed (37.31 km/h) during the 2022/23 Premier League campaign out of any other player in the division.

Having also been hailed by Pep Guardiola last year for the “unique” physical attributes he has, this further backs up Allardyce’s point about how this has helped Walker stay at the top level for so long.
