The USA plans to redirect some migrants from Latin American countries to Greece and Italy, CBS News informs.
Sources have informed that Greece and Italy will be receiving migrants who have undergone screening procedures at immigration offices. These offices were opened last year by the administration of US President Joe Biden in four Latin American countries.
In these centers in Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Guatemala, people can apply for legal entry to the USA or other countries. According to the latest agreements, Greece and Italy will join Canada and Spain.
One of the sources interviewed by CBS News noted that Italy and Greece will likely accept a relatively small number of migrants, approximately 500 or fewer individuals.
As reported by CBS News, Greece and Italy are mostly transit countries for migrants who want to live in other European countries. Both countries have an aging population and significant labor shortages, creating an incentive for the migration of foreign workers.
