Tripura Government assures adequate food and fuel supplies amid railway disruptions

Agartala (Tripura) [India], May 31 (ANI): In response to recent concerns over potential shortages of food grains and petroleum products in the state, Sushanta Choudhary, Minister of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs of Tripura, has assured the public that the state has an ample stock of essential supplies. He further emphasised that there is no need to panic in his situation.

This development came due to disruptions in railway connectivity due to cyclonic impacts in the Badrpur and Lumding areas of Assam.

Speaking with ANI, Sushanta Choudhary, said, “We have an ample quantity of food grains, petrol and petroleum products available in stocks in our state; there is no such situation to panic. There is indeed a certain disruption in railway connectivity in the areas of Badarpur and Lumding, but we have communicated with the north-frontier railways and they are working continuously to restore the railway track.”

“Although last time, due to the disruption of railways in Jhatinga, we faced a shortage of food and petroleum products for 10–12 days, but this time the situation is under control due to coordinated efforts of the management and government,” he added.

The statement by the Tripura minister comes after train services were disrupted in the North-East due to waterlogging in parts of the New Haflong-Bandarkhal section and the Dima Hasao district of Assam following heavy rainfall due to cyclone 'Remal'.

The disruptions were caused by severe weather conditions and have temporarily affected rail services. The affected routes are critical for transporting goods into the state. However, the officials have confirmed that the North East Frontier (NF) Railways are working tirelessly to restore the railway tracks.

The government's proactive measures include coordination with railway authorities and contingency plans to ensure that the supply of food grains and petroleum products remains uninterrupted.

Sushanta Choudhary has encouraged residents to remain calm and trust the government to manage the issue effectively. With adequate stocks of food and fuel and efforts to restore railway connectivity proceeding swiftly, Tripura is well-prepared to manage the temporary disruption.
