The Vaseline hack - and more tricks to make your perfume's scent last

You just spent the price of a short holiday on a bottle of Louis Vuitton Symphony or Tom Ford Rose Prick, and no sooner do you spray some on, but the scent is already fading.

Perfume doesn't come cheap, so it pays to know how to make sure each of the those pricey droplets lasts.

There are numerous tips on TikTok, Instagram and elsewhere for perfume - and one is that you can use a dab of Vaseline to prevent fragrances from evaporating too quickly.

This trick truly works. Apply a thin layer of Vaseline or other odourless body lotion to your wrists and neck. Then spray on your fragrance. That layer of grease acts a bit like a primer, sealing in the fragrance for several hours.

Note that when it comes to spraying on your body, the fragrance is still likely to wear off after a few hours, even with the boost the Vaseline gives it.

But there are a few other things you can also pay attention to if you're trying to make every drop of your scent last.

Many people like to rub their wrists together once spraying, but this is one thing to definitely avoid, as this will generate heat and the perfume's top note will evaporate faster. Instead, gently put your wrists together before rubbing them on other parts of the body.

The best parts of the body to have a fragrance are those with the most blood circulation, ie. the wrists, throat and neck.

Perfume, like anything you repeat over and over, loses its charm after a while. This phenomenon can lead you to gradually start overdosing as time passes.

The key is to switch it up every now and again and use different fragrances. It's also best to avoid constantly topping up, as too much perfume - no matter how expensive - will make others feel sick.
