Report: Sunderland and KLD could push the boat out for key managerial target in last-ditch attempt

Sunderland could make a last-ditch attempt to hire RC Lens-linked Will Still.

Sunderland continue to be heavily linked with 31-year-old former Reims boss Will Still. But on Thursday it was revealed that he was set for RC Lens.

Reports in Europe claimed that Still was set to join RC Lens as their new head coach after leaving Reims at the start of May.

The news received mixed reviews from Sunderland fans who are tiring of the wait to find out who the club’s next manager is.

But now it looks as though Sunderland owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus may make a last-ditch attempt to prise Still from Lens’ grasp.

Sunderland to make last-ditch attempt to hire Will Still as next manager

An emerging report from Alan Nixon on Patreon has revealed that Still ‘remains in the picture for the Sunderland job’, with RC Lens ‘waiting on an answer’.

Nixon adds that Still remains the ‘top target’ for Sunderland and that Louis-Dreyfus ‘could push the boat out’ for Still over the weekend.

Lastly, Nixon says that Still is now ‘working with a top agent’ in order to get the ‘best package available’ this summer.

Will Still to Sunderland rumours rumble on

Sunderland fans may become tired of hearing Still’s name in headlines. But it seems clear that he’s Louis-Dreyfus’ no.1 choice, and that he has been for some time.

Louis-Dreyfus though has been hesitant on hiring him so far and now he’s facing a rather inevitable outcome, with Still wanted by other clubs.

He recently spoke to Norwich City though they’ve since hired Johannes Hoff Thorup, and now it looks like Lens are in the driving seat to hire Still.

It could be down to Sunderland and what they put on the table, with Still having two clear options now, or so it seems.

Whether or not Louis-Dreyfus can compete financially with Lens remains to be seen; they’ll be able to offer Still top flight football and in a Ligue 1 division that he knows well.

Sunderland on the other hand seems like a less and less attractive project as the search for their next manager rumbles on past the 100-day mark.
