Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of May 31

Since the beginning of the day, May 31, 26 combat engagements have already been recorded. The Ukrainian Defense Forces are taking all necessary measures to stop Russian troops, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Situation in sectors

In the Kharkiv sector, Russians did not conduct any active operations. Ukrainian soldiers are strengthening their positions and defenses.

An attack near Novoiehorivka was repelled in the Kupiansk sector. Fighting also continues in the areas of Petropavlivka, Berestove, and Makiivka. The situation is under control.

In the Lyman sector, Russians tried to attack near Dibrova. The situation is tense. Ukrainian Defense Forces are taking measures to stabilize the situation.

In the Siversk sector, fighting continues in the area of Berestove. Russians tried three times to break through in the direction of Vyimka.

In the Kramatorsk sector, two Russian attempts to approach Chasiv Yar were repelled.

In the Pokrovsk sector, measures were taken to prevent Russia's advance. Russians have tried to push Ukrainian fighters back 4 times. Fighting is currently ongoing near Kalynove, Novoselivka Persha, and Nevelske. An attack in the area of Novooleksandrivka was repelled.

In the Kurakhove sector, fighting continues near Kostiantynivka.

In the Orikhiv sector, three Russian assaults were repelled in the areas of Mala Tokmachka, Robotyne, and Novoandriivka.

“The situation in the rest of the sectors has not changed significantly,” the General Staff adds.

Russian offensive

In early May, Russian invaders launched an offensive in the north of Kharkiv region. According to analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Russia may be planning to launch the second phase of its offensive in the region after capturing Vovchansk.
