Jessica Lange taking a break from Hollywood

Jessica Lang is going to be stepping away from Hollywood to live a more "contemplative existence".

The 75-year-old 'American Horror Story' star has revealed she's planning to take a long break from acting after her current stint on Broadway in 'Mother Play' comes to an end on June 16 revealing she will decamp to the countryside for some much-needed peace and quiet.

She told PEOPLE: "I'm looking forward to going back to the country and trying to live a little more of a contemplative existence - at least for a while."

Jessica also spoke about her plans to USA Today admitting she's going to take a "really long time off".

She said: "I don’t have that drive you do when you’re young. It’s still thrilling when I get on stage, but I also think, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if I could just sit up in the woods in my cabin? Maybe do some traveling?' [But now] I’m looking forward to taking a really long, long, long time off."

It comes after Jessica admitted her latest stint on the stage - which won her a Tony Award for Best Actress - has been a lot tougher than she thought it would be.

She told Deadline.com: "It’s hard work. I’m much older now, and it’s exhausting for me. It’s funny because when they talked to me about this play and I said, Oh, it’s a very small, contained 90-minute, or hour and 45 minute, play. That’s going to be easy compared to doing 'Long Day’s Journey Into Night' which stretches almost four hours.

"I thought, oh, yeah, I can do that easy. What I didn’t anticipate was the velocity of emotions in it that is absolutely exhausting. And the pace at which the play moves.

"We’re hardly ever off stage. It’s like, it doesn’t stop for a moment. You can’t really go off stage and just kind of sit down for a minute and catch your breath. The pace is relentless."
