On May 23rd, 2024, 30-year-old Bethany Ann Israel, a resident of Bloomington, Minnesota, met with her 23-year-old brother, Jack Joseph Ball, at a residence in Lakeville.

What was intended to be a casual family dinner would soon devolve into a scene of unimaginable horror, as Bethany's lifeless body and the remains of her unborn child, Dakota, were discovered in the aftermath.

Concerned family members, unable to reach Bethany after the dinner, decided to visit the Lakeville residence. Upon arrival, they discovered a significant amount of blood and the gruesome remains of Bethany's body.

Immediately, they alerted the authorities, who arrived on the scene to find bloody knives and dismembered body parts believed to belong to the victim.

As the Lakeville Police Department initiated a search for Jack Ball, they received a 911 call from a Rosemount resident reporting the sighting of a man placing what appeared to be a body part on their front step.

Officers swiftly responded and, after a brief search, apprehended Jack Ball in the backyard of a neighboring home. The suspect had sustained an injury to his neck, which was believed to be self-inflicted.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office conducted a thorough examination of the remains, determining the cause of death as "complex homicidal violence." The tragic discovery also confirmed that Bethany was between 17 and 18 weeks pregnant at the time of her murder, adding an additional layer of heartbreak to this already devastating case.

Jack Joseph Ball was charged with two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Bethany Ann Israel and her unborn child, Dakota.

During his initial court appearance, which was conducted via video conferencing from the hospital where he was receiving medical treatment, the judge set his bail at a staggering $2 million without conditions, or $1 million with conditions.
