‘Special’ Liverpool youngster can force his way into Arne Slot’s plans after his international call-up

Liverpool have a long list of talented youngsters on the scene, with Jurgen Klopp handing many of them their big break.

During his lengthy tenure, the German played a key role in developing many young players from Melwood prospects into Anfield regulars.

It remains to be seen exactly what approach his successor Arne Slot will take when he arrives on the scene.

The Dutchman will be keen to get going in pre-season as soon as possible, with Slot officially getting underway at the beginning of June.

But he will be without many players early on due to their international commitments, one of which is youngster Lewis Koumas.

Lewis Koumas enjoys superb season at Liverpool

The 18-year-old striker has just one senior Liverpool appearance to his name, but it is one he nor many fans won’t forget for some time.

Making his first team debut in an FA Cup clash against Southampton in February, the teenage forward wowed the home supporters as he netted at the Anfield Road end.

Koumas also grabbed his first Reds medal during the latest season having been an unused substitute during the League Cup win over Wembley.

Having bagged 16 goals in the 2022/23 campaign, during which he signed his first professional contract with the Reds, he then netted 17 times across all levels in 2023/24.

Anfield teenager should be in Arne Slot’s plans

The milestones are now continuing for the 18-year-old, who has now received a first senior call-up to the Wales national team, as per the official Liverpool website.

In exciting times for the youngster, Koumas is part of Rob Page’s 25-man squad for the upcoming friendly meetings with Gibraltar and Slovakia.

The forward will now be keen to follow in his father’s footsteps, with former Wigan midfielder Jason Koumas having made 34 appearances for Wales during his successful career on the pitch.

The teenage attacker, who can also play in midfield, must surely already be in Slot’s thoughts, with Klopp having branded Koumas ‘special’ earlier this year.
