When a Manhattan jury convicted former President Donald Trump on 34 criminal counts in District Attorney Alvin Bragg Jr.'s hush money/falsified business records case, right-wing media outlets like Fox News, Fox Business and Newsmax were quick to attack the verdict. Meanwhile, on Russia television, many pro-Vladimir Putin hosts criticized the verdict as well.

The Daily Beast's Julia Davis describes those Russian media responses in an article published on May 31.

"Russian state-controlled media apparatus closely followed legal troubles of the former U.S. President Donald J. Trump, spicing up most of their coverage with pro-Trump clips from Fox News and Tucker Carlson," Davis explains. "Russian propagandists were openly hoping for a hung jury and were visibly disappointed when Trump became a convicted felon on all 34 charges he was facing."

Russian media figure Dmitry Kulikov, who hosts the show "Solovyov Live," complained, "They wronged our Donald Trump." And Malek Dudakov, known for his commentary on the United States, lamented, "Our Donald Fredovych was found guilty on all 34 counts…. Now, he is a felon."

On Russian TV, Aleksei Zhuravlyov, a member of the Duma, commented, "There are idiots in every country, but this is the only instance where idiots have their own country. This is something new in history."

Russian host Olga Skabeeva, Davis notes, incorrectly described Bragg's prosecution as "a lawsuit brought by Stormy Daniels."

Skabeeva remarked, "Our universally beloved Donald Trump thinks they can sit it out across the pond."

According to Davis, Russian television host Vladimir Solovyov "urged Republicans and Democrats to take up arms and violently confront each other" but also "volunteered to host the upcoming debate between Trump and U.S. President Joe Biden."
