Barcelona should avoid deal for £45m Manchester City star who has offered himself to Flick

New Barcelona manager Hansi Flick will be eager to add more quality to his squad, but he should avoid one player who is keen on joining.

Barcelona are struggling financially and will need to be creative over how they strengthen the squad, and they are in the market for a defensive midfielder.

Guido Rodriguez is set to join on a free transfer from Real Betis as a squad option, but Barcelona need a starter who can try to replace the influence Sergio Busquets had.

A loan deal may be possible for Manchester City star Kalvin Phillips, and the Englishman would be keen on a move to the Camp Nou.

Kalvin Phillips offers himself to Barcelona

A report from SPORT has now revealed that Phillips has offered himself as an option to Barcelona ahead of the summer transfer window, with the 28-year-old not in Pep Guardiola’s plans at Man City.

City have set an asking price of around €30m for the defensive midfielder, who spent the second half of this season on loan at West Ham United.

Despite him being the profile of midfielder Barcelona need, Flick simply must avoid signing Phillips.

Phillips hardly featured for Man City after a strong spell under Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds earned him a £45m move to the Etihad Stadium, and he has struggled with injuries and fitness.

His spell at West Ham was nothing short of a complete disaster. When he did play he was completely off the pace, and made several costly errors before another injury ended his season.

Despite his experience, Phillips is nowhere near the required level to play for Barcelona, is on a big wage, and has not proved his fitness at all.

Even if he is keen to join, the likelihood of him succeeding at Barcelona is slim, and this would be yet another transfer mistake if the club chooses to pursue a deal.
