Here we have a new Ram 1200 pickup truck. Except, it isn’t really a Ram, but a rebadged pickup from France, which apparently originates from China. And it will be sold in Mexico. Big global energy, this truck. This Ram 1200 pickup takes shape from a Peugeot Landtrek and/or Fiat Titano, both sold by Stellantis in other markets. However, both trucks and this new “Ram” are manufactured in China.
However, it’s not too different of a formula than the previous-gen Ram 1200. That truck was a Mitsubishi, rebadged as a Fiat Fullback, before launching as a Ram product in 2016 in the Middle East. It’s also yet another smaller truck from Ram that won’t be sold here. And with its Chinese origins, it definitely won’t be sold here.
Other Ram trucks sold outside the USA include the Ram 700, Ram 1000, and Rampage.
2025 Ram 1200: Details
The 2025 Ram 1200 is the latest body-on-frame truck to be released by Stellantis to be sold in Mexico, and just like the Ram Rampage, which is not a rebadged vehicle, it won’t be coming to the United States. Sure, we can say that there’s a possibility that the Ram Rampage could make it to the North American market, it’s still pure speculative at this point and with other companies putting their compact pickup plans on ice, it’s starting to look bleak for the Rampage to reach our borders. We’re likely getting an electric midsize truck instead. Something that nobody really asked for.
Similarly, GM does a similar thing with the Chevrolet S10 Max in Mexico. It’s not technically a Chevy, but a rebadged truck from China, as well. The consumer benefit is that they get a larger truck for small truck money, as the labor costs associated with Chinese-made products are far less. We’ll leave the ethical pondering to you.
As for Mexico, the 2025 Ram 1200 will arrive on the market with a turbocharged 2.4-liter gasoline engine with 207 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque. Interestingly, the pickup will be available with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. There is a 4×4 configuration for those interested, but it’s limited to the range-topping Laramie trim. So, if your budget only allows for the lesser versions of the truck, you’ll get the 4×2 setup.
This new Ram 1200 pickup is set to compete against the likes of the Toyota Hilux, Nissan Frontier, and the Chevrolet S10 Max. There aren’t any details regarding pricing, but it reportedly starts at the equivalent of $26,600 and could rise to about $40,000. A relatively competitive price with the likes of the Chevrolet S10 Max. For this price, customers will obtain around 6,614 pounds of towing capacity with a maximum load capacity of 2,645 pounds.
As for North America, we will still wait for a *real* Ram midsize truck (and hopefully the Rampage), which the brand has been teasing for some time now.
