Ukraine and Poland may sign a bilateral agreement on security guarantees before the NATO summit that will take place on July 9-11 in Washington, according to Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Radoslaw Sikorski after an informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Prague.

Sikorski informed NATO allies about ongoing negotiations with Ukraine on a bilateral security agreement.

According to him, the talks are going well.

The Polish minister expressed hope that the document would be signed before the July NATO summit in Washington.

Sikorski also said that as a result of the talks in Prague, it was possible to bring closer the development of important decisions, including strengthening the message of Ukraine's future membership in the Alliance and creating a mechanism for financial support for Ukraine's defense of about $40 billion a year. According to him, half of this amount should be paid by the United States.

Security guarantees for Ukraine

Last year, at the NATO summit in Vilnius, the G7 countries signed a joint declaration on security guarantees for Ukraine.

Fifteen countries have already signed security agreements with Ukraine: Britain, Canada, Germany, France, Denmark, Italy, Finland, the Netherlands, Latvia, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Sweden, Iceland, and Norway.

The media also recently reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Joe Biden may sign a bilateral agreement on security guarantees at the G7 summit that will take place on June 13-15 in Italy.
