With key visitors in town, Georgia looking to lock down a couple of commitments

Georgia is expecting close to 15 official visitors this weekend in Athens as the recruiting calendar kicks into high gear this summer.

While five of those recruits are already pledged to the Bulldogs, the rest are among some of their top remaining targets on the board. With nine spots already secured in UGA’s class, there’s still some work to be done to fill out what could be another top-three class under Kirby Smart and Co.

According to On3’s Steve Wiltfong, UGA would love to close out a few recruitments this weekend with commitments.

And they look to be trending that way.

“I think Georgia wants to close some of these guys this weekend. I wouldn’t be surprised if Georgia sped up the timeline of one or two of these visitors this weekend and got them in the fold. That’s something I think they’re going to push for with this massive group of prospects on campus.

Wiltfong breaks down three major Bulldogs targets

Near the top of the list of visitors is five-star Ellaville (Ga.) Schley County linebacker Zayden Walker, who has been a top UGA target for more than a year. He’s been on campus numerous times, and came in early this weekend for a chance to participate in Georgia’s player camp and be coached by linebackers coach Glenn Schumann.

“Talking to my colleague Chad Simmons, we think Georgia is in an excellent position with there,” Wiltfong said. “South Carolina is trying to make that recruitment interesting, and Miami is another program that’s been in the mix for Walker. But with Georgia, he understands what that opportunity is for him and his development, and we like where they stand coming into the official visit this weekend.”

In-state four-star wideout Travis Smith is another major target, though on the offensive side of the ball. He’s down to four schools, but both Simmons and Wiltong like where UGA stands.

“Him and CJ Wiley are the two coveted in-state pass-catchers that Georgia would love to land this weekend. My On3 RPM [prediction] is on Georgia for Travis Smith,” added Wiltfong. “Tennessee, Auburn, and Alabama are some of the others he has a keen eye on, but Georgia is setting the pace here. His mom is also extremely high on Georgia, and things have clicked fast with [receivers coach] James Coley. They’re in fantastic shape with him going into the weekend.”

And while the Bulldogs loaded up in the offensive trenches in the 2024 cycle, they’ve got their eyes on a few more additions in 2025. Included in that list is four-star interior lineman Nick Brooks.

“He’s been on campus a bunch, so it’s obvious that he’s excited about the opportunity from Georgia,” said Wiltfong. “Coach Searels, Coach Kirby Smart, the pedigree at the point of attack. Georgia is definitely one of the frontrunners coming into this weekend’s official visit.”
