Former Nebraska star Will Bolt has the Cornhuskers back in the NCAA Tournament after they won the Big Ten Tournament last week.

Bolt’s squad is facing Florida in its NCAA Tournament opener, and he spoke with ESPN+ during the game about what it’s like to have Nebraska back playing in the postseason.

“It means everything,” Will Bolt said. “I mean, coming from Texas up to Nebraska, not knowing much about the school and university and the state and the community of Husker nation, I found out pretty quick how much they love Husker athletics, Husker sports. So I’ve spent the majority of my adult life pouring into the University of Nebraska, trying to get back.”

Bolt is in his fifth season back at Nebraska after being hired to lead the baseball program in June of 2019. He came to Nebraska after previously spending time as an assistant at Nebraska and Texas A&M.

As for Friday’s game, Brett Sears got the start on the mound for the Cornhuskers. Sears allowed 10 hits but surrendered only three runs to keep Nebraska in the game.

Bolt shared what he saw from his starter.

“I actually think he was a little amped up early on. Typically in his outings the fastball velo’s going to range from 88 to 94. It just seemed like he was a little firmer with everything, maybe the ball’s flattening out a little bit,” Bolt said. “But vintage Brett. I mean he just competes out there. He’s pretty stingy. Leadoff hitters have been on the barrel, but then he backed up a slider there and they made him pay there with a two-out double, but he’s been competitive.”
