Earlier this week, Orlando Jones four-star wide receiver Vernell Brown III made his way to Nashville for the On3 Elite Series — an educational seminar discussing the new era of NIL and navigating life after football.

By the end of the week, he was heading north to Columbus to take an official visit to Ohio State.

Brown met with Buckeyes wide receivers coach Brian Hartline, who has throughout his tenure brought in multiple elite receiver prospects from the state of Florida.

“Absolutely their résumé. They’re proven to have everything for a receiver. You see that with guys like Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson and the list goes on,” Brown said of Ohio State earlier this week.

Brown’s official visit to Ohio State is his first official of the summer.

“I think it’s really big, as far as all OVs, they’re all really big. Ohio State, just getting the chance to see it again, learn more about it and kind of the same thing I’ll do with every OV. It’s definitely really big,” Brown said. “Just getting up there with my family is a big thing, because I’ve been up there with my dad but I’ve never been up there with my whole family, kind of see how they like it, things like that.”

Vernell Brown Recruit Profile

The 5-foot-10.5, 173-pound Brown is the nation’s No. 35 overall prospect, No. 6 wide receiver and No. 5 recruit from Florida in the 2025 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power wrote this about him as a prospect in April”

“Brown has backed up magnificent junior film with a dominant off-season to date. He’s a three-level threat at Orlando (Fla.) Jones, showing signs of a very well-rounded skill set. Brown is arguably the best YAC receiver in the cycle. He is extremely dangerous with the ball in his hands, flashing high-end spatial awareness, burst and lateral agility. Brown is a loose and fluid athlete who projects as a very good route-runner. He’s able to separate at all levels, including as a deep threat. The ball skills and tracking ability also look to be strong.

Brown, who doubles as a top return man, caught 70 passes for 1,370 yards and ten touchdowns while taking four kicks to the house. He’s since turned in dominant performances at Under Armour’s Orlando camp and Overtime’s OT7 Dallas regional.”
