Football: Nadeshiko Japan ease to 2-0 friendly win over New Zealand

Mina Tanaka and Toko Koga were on target as Japan beat New Zealand 2-0 on Friday in the first of two women's football friendlies between the countries as they warm up for the Paris Olympics.

In the last game before manager Futoshi Ikeda announces his 18-member Olympic squad, world No. 7 Nadeshiko Japan cruised past 28th-ranked New Zealand without allowing a shot in Murcia, Spain, where the two sides will meet again on Monday.

Japan took the lead in first-half stoppage time at Estadio Nueva Condomina after Fuka Nagano's cutback from the right found Kiko Seike, who quickly laid the ball off for forward Tanaka to steer home and complete the flowing move.

Koga doubled the lead two minutes into the second half after the 18-year-old Feyenoord defender found herself unmarked at the far post and headed in Hikaru Kitagawa's corner from the right off the post.

Japan will play Ghana in their last warm-up game on July 13 before facing Spain, Brazil and Nigeria in Group C in Paris.
