Henry Townshend, apprentice at The White Horse in Brancaster, receives Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award

An enthusiastic apprentice at a seaside restaurant has received The Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award.

Henry Townshend, who has been doing a management apprentice for the past three years at The White Horse in Brancaster, was presented with the award by The Duke of Edinburgh at Buckingham Palace.

He said: “Studying and working for this award has changed my life. I was shy and reserved.

“After working with people from all walks of life and the challenging outdoor pursuits in the Yorkshire Dales, Peak District, and Lake District, I have gained lifetime confidence and am so inspired to help others.

“To this end, I have applied to become a Duke of Edinburgh ambassador so that I can help others to achieve their potential.”

Rob Williamson, general manager at The White Horse, said: “What an amazing achievement Henry, we are all in awe and very proud of you.

“We have watched Henry grow in confidence, he is a very special part of the team.

“Henry is working on a level four management apprenticeship - he previously completed a level two hospitality team member and passed with distinction.

“We have just heard Henry has been nominated for Apprentice of the Year at the College of West Anglia.

“Watch this space. Congratulations Henry, your future is very bright.”

Henry is Norfolk-born and bred and lives in Brancaster.
