‘A few whispers’: Journalist is hearing Chelsea are now looking at Man City star Guardiola called ‘incredible’

A journalist has shared what he’s heard recently about Chelsea having an apparent interest in one of Manchester City’s players.

The Manchester club have seen numerous players walk away from the Etihad Stadium to join other top-flight clubs in recent years.

Names such as Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko have left City to start new journeys at different Premier League sides.

Now that another summer transfer window is close to opening, one journalist has shared what he’s been hearing recently about one City player behind the scenes and the interest he has garnered.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones had this to say about the current situation regarding Stefan Ortega and his future, amid recent reports claiming that the Citizens are looking to get the goalkeeper to sign a new contract at the club.

He said: “New contract talks do not surprise me at all – especially at a time when there is speculation over Ederson leaving.

“Ortega thinks he is good enough to be their number one and is willing to back himself in that sense. I think a few clubs will have an eye on his situation right now to see how conversations go around a new contract.

“There are even a few whispers he could be on Chelsea’s list as they consider targets who already have some Premier League experience.”

Ortega has proven himself to be a top goalkeeper at City

With two seasons now under his belt at the Manchester club, the German has made 34 appearances across all competitions, keeping 17 clean sheets along the way.

Despite not being City’s first-choice shot-stopper, the 31-year-old has proved himself to be a vital figure in the squad.

For example, after replacing Ederson in the 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur last month, Ortega made a crucial save to stop Son Heung-min from scoring in the second half, which was described as “incredible” by Pep Guardiola.

In fact, to highlight its importance, Jamie Carragher said that this particular save won City the Premier League title even before their final game of the season.

Taking all of that into account, we feel that if Chelsea do have their eyes on signing Ortega, City must do all they can to convince the German to stay at the Etihad and sign a new contract.
