Link Jarrett emphasizes how special it is to host a regional

Florida State hit the ground running in their home regional, beating Stetson 7-2 in front of a roaring crowd to advance to the winners’ bracket.

FSU head coach Link Jarrett is surely caught up in the play-by-play of these games and is focused on beating each opponent, no matter where the game takes place. However, he still found some time after the first win to reflect on the reward of getting to host in the postseason. After all, it’s been the team’s goal since the season-opener.

“I told the guys day one, like, if you want to be home at the end of the year, you’re going to have to perform and execute from day one and weekend one all the way through,” said Jarrett.

“So that’s the goal in this, it’s to win the ACC. Regular season championships always my goal, whatever conference I’m in. That has always been my my goal and that drives you every game.”

In order to accomplish such lofty feats, though, Jarrett credits the grind of coming out and performing consistently in every game, whether they’re midweek vs. lower conference teams or ACC series on the weekends.

“But right there with it, and probably more importantly in this situation, here at this program, is… can you play well enough all year? Can you handle the midweek games? So this long haul, this year is the indication of their ability to manage from the middle of February to June — and that is not easy.”

Florida State did just that and performed at a high level from start to finish ever since Jarrett gave that opening day speech.

“So, the reward of this is the reflection for me that they delivered the result from day one,” the Seminole head coach continued, noting some of the setbacks that FSU overcame in 2024.

“We were not healthy from day one, we battled some things all year. That’s what this is about for me. I can look at the program and the team and say that team executed and put themselves in position to play at home.”

To be playing at home, in NCAA Tournament games, in late May and June, is what college baseball is all about for Link Jarrett.

“And then, when you factor in that they’re a top-eight seed, that even means more to me. So that’s why I do this, I do it for for these guys.”
