"First of all, they captured two bridgeheads, five to seven km deep and 13-15 km wide, which are precisely the bridgeheads from which a brigade should advance," Hetman stated.
The expert noted that the occupiers might have aimed to capture more but were stopped by the Armed Forces:

"To say they did not achieve anything is incorrect, as they created two bridgeheads and will likely attempt to advance from there. This will be the second wave, aiming to move five to 10 km closer to Kharkiv to target it with barrel artillery."
He also noted that while the enemy's losses were high, they were not yet critical:
"We should heed President Zelenskyy's statements that the tactical advantage may shift to the Russians in the spring-summer period, with potential advances in some areas."

Hetman added that while the Ukrainian forces stopped the Russian offensive, they did not disrupt it. He emphasized the need to strengthen defenses with Western weapons, mobilized forces, and fortifications to offset the enemy's numerical superiority.
On May 10, Russian invaders attempted to break through Ukraine's defense near Vovchansk, Kharkiv Oblast. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russian troops had started a new wave of counteroffensive actions in this direction.
Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi reported that Russian troops have expanded the zone of active hostilities by 70 km.
Monitoring resources reported the occupation of several villages in northern Kharkiv Oblast, sparking discussions about the sufficiency of the fortifications there.

On May 28, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces announced that the Russian army had not conducted assaults in Kharkiv Oblast since the beginning of the day. It was noted that Ukrainian troops are strengthening their defense and keeping the Russian invaders under fire control.
In an interview with Reuters, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said the occupiers aim to open a new front in northern Ukraine, but it has been possible to stabilize the new frontline in Kharkiv Oblast.
