Liverpool could now sign attacking target in a ‘cut-price’ deal this summer

Liverpool are getting ready to make their moves in the summer transfer window.

Towards the end of the season, it became clear that there are a couple of upgrades needed in the Reds’ squad.

And as Arne Slot officially gets to work as the new Liverpool head coach, he looks primed to do some business in the market.

One of the primary areas Slot needs to get more from is in the attack. Unsurprisingly, there have been claims that Liverpool are targeting a new forward this summer.

As ever, FSG will be looking for value for money in any new additions. And according to journalist Ben Jacobs, there’s an obvious solution for the Liverpool owners.

Liverpool could sign ‘cut-price’ Crysencio Summerville

The possibility of Liverpool signing a new attacker this summer is an enticing one. There are plenty of exciting names being linked.

Nevertheless, some realism also needs to be spliced into proceedings. It feels unlikely, for example, that the Reds will go big on a forward when they already have five at the club.

Journalist Graeme Bailey has exclusively told Rousing The Kop that Liverpool could indeed afford to make a statement signing if they wanted to.

Bailey has claimed that the Reds would be one of the sides well placed to sign Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia should be become available.

However, it perhaps seems more realistic that Liverpool will instead look for a bargain. And speaking to Give Me Sport, Jacobs has suggested that this could put Crysencio Summerville towards the top of Slot’s shopping list.

“Where they are moving at the moment is around this wide attack-minded player, and Crysencio Summerville is on their radar,” says the journalist.

“And now that Leeds haven’t got promoted, there may be more of a cut-price deal available for somewhere between £30 and £40 million,” he adds. “That would have been higher, had Leeds got promoted.

“Because they’ve not gone up, Leeds are definitely going to have to look to sell some of their star assets. So there may be a deal available there for potentially close to half the price of a player like Olmo, and in exactly the kind of profile that Liverpool are looking for.”

Will Liverpool sign Crysencio Summerville?

With Michael Edwards returning to oversee Liverpool’s recruitment, we don’t see FSG changing their model too much.

It isn’t as though the Reds don’t have money to spend. If they’re utterly convinced that a player is worth blowing big money on then they will do it.

Otherwise, Liverpool tend to look around for clever ways to make their budget stretch further.

In our opinion, we could see how Summerville would fit the bill in that respect. He’s had a good season for Leeds and looked primed to make the step up to the Premier League.

Having said that, we’d argue that £30m or £40m is actually still rather a lot to pay for a player who’s coming up from the Championship.

Although Summerville would be cheaper than someone like another reported target – Dani Olmo – there are still question marks over value for money.

If it drops another £10 – £15m, then it would be much more palatable.
