Freddie Ljungberg reveals what Tony Adams said to him about Mikel Arteta's Arsenal team

Arsenal performed well again this season, but finished the campaign trophyless again, and many wonder how they will take the next step in their project.

Mikel Arteta has built a young squad capable of challenging for the Premier League title, but they fell just short behind Manchester City in the title race again.

Former Arsenal star Emmanuel Petit has now claimed that this team will not be remembered without trophies, and other legends are also of a similar opinion that Arteta’s side need to add silverware to their outstanding performances.

Arsenal took the Premier League title race to the final day, and Invincible star Freddie Ljungberg has now revealed what title-winning captain Tony Adams told him what the Gunners need to do to get over the line and win the league.

Freddie Ljungberg shares Tony Adams advice to Arsenal squad

Speaking in an interview with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, Ljungberg revealed that Adams told him what the current squad need to be able to lift a first Premier League title in 20 years.

“I was speaking to Tony Adams on the final day, and his point was like ‘you need to kick in that door.'” Ljungberg stated.

“I was talking about how Arsenal have a young team, and I think in the future Man City – maybe with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne getting a bit older – Arsenal will get trophies.

“He said like at some point we have to kick that door in, of course you need to learn to get that feeling of winning, and when you learn how to win, you’ll win and win and win.

“Remember when we came into Arsenal, what Tony and them were like, they were on you like a rash.”

Arsenal need one major trophy to break the drought

Arsenal have won five FA Cups since they last won the league 20 years ago, but this current squad do not have any trophies to their name, with the entire starting XI from the last triumph in 2020 no longer at the club.

Arteta’s side have enough quality to challenge Man City, but over the course of a season their winning experience is often the difference when it comes to title races.

Arsenal will hope that recent reports of Pep Guardiola aiming to depart City next year are true, as they are the best-placed team to win the title whilst they undergo a major change.

The Gunners just need one title to end their 20-year drought, and instil a trophy-winning mentality into the squad which they can carry forward into the future and continue to win more.
