Brian Daboll is hoping we see more of Daniel Jones from 2022 ahead of the third campaign between the New York Giants coach and the former Duke Blue Devils quarterback.

That was the season where Daboll established himself as a formidable NFL leader, and Jones proved to the Giants he can be the guy under center for New York for years to come. Until last season came of course, when Jones struggled while on the field, and eventually ended up with two major injuries.

Now, he’s working his way back from a torn ACL suffered against the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023, and looking to elevate his game to past levels under Daboll’s tutelage. Speaking with the media, the Giants leader elaborated on his quarterback’s recovery status.

“Have not made that decision yet,” Daboll responded, asked if the former first-round pick would be doing any 11-on-11 drills anytime soon. “Have talked about it, so he’s getting — I’d say he’s getting closer and closer. He’s only however many, six and a half months or whatever it is out, so he’s kind of right on schedule, in terms of his rehab plan, where we have him.

“It’s something we’ve talked about, we’re not at that point yet. … I’d say we have a plan, and we’re following that plan. He’s making progress, and when we feel like that’s the next step, then he’ll be out there doing it.”

When Jones does get back on the field, the Giants gift-wrapped him a shiny new weapon at wide receiver in first-round pick Malik Nabers.

The wide receiver is a rare talent. He caught a combined 189 passes over three seasons at LSU, totaling 3,000 yards and 21 touchdowns. His 3,003 career receiving yards are the most in LSU history; a prestigious honor for such a storied program.

Nabers produced the bulk of his jaw-dropping numbers this past season when he notched career-bests of 89 receptions for 1,569 yards and 14 TDs. Further, the former four-star prospect boasted 17.6 yards per catch.

Fueled by Nabers’ outstanding production, LSU boasted the No. 1 nation in the offense last season. The Tigers averaged 543.5 yards and 45.5 points per game, leading the country in both categories.

Perhaps Daniel Jones’ game will be elevated by the fact that he finally seems to have a WR1 in the building. If not, this could be his last season in East Rutherford, as the Giants have an out in his contract after 2024.
