Qatar hopes parties will deal positively with proposals for Gaza

Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani has expressed the hope that a proposal accepted by Israel for a ceasefire in the war in Gaza can bring movement to the efforts of the mediators.

In a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Al Thani stressed that "mediation is working to achieve a lasting ceasefire to put an end to the war."

He also "expressed the mediators' hope that the parties will deal positively with the fundamentals mentioned in US President Biden's address, including the withdrawal of the Israeli forces from all populated areas in the Gaza Strip, release of all hostages including women, the elderly people and the injured in return for the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, and the aid entry into the enclave," according to a statement.

The US, Egypt and Qatar have been mediating between Israel and Palestinian Isamist Hamas for weeks, attempting to secure the release of the remaining hostages and a ceasefire in the conflict.
