Playing for the University of Kentucky is something that Cassidy Rowe always dreamed about doing growing up. Being from the mountains of eastern Kentucky, there couldn’t be anything better than that. So, when Rowe got offered by Kyra Elzy all the way back in middle school, it was a big deal for her.
Rowe played under Elzy for two years, but after back-to-back 12-win seasons, Elzy was let go in March following the conclusion of the season. While the move needed to be done, it sent shockwaves through the program. Elzy was beloved by everyone around UK, including Rowe.
That left Rowe with a big decision to make. Should she seek an opportunity elsewhere — somewhere where she may get more playing time? Or, should she tough it out and stick around in Lexington?
Well, according to her, there wasn’t even much of a decision to make. On Wednesday, the junior guard made an appearance on The Alan Cutler Show, and she reaffirmed that she is Kentucky through and through.
“The thought never even crossed my mind,” Rowe told Cutler regarding the thought of transferring. [Kentucky is] home for me.“
Next season, Rowe have the opportunity to be a leader on and off the court at Kentucky. Along with Saniah Tyler, the rising junior has been at Kentucky the longest, so she’ll be in charge of getting people to learn the ropes around Lexington.
