Mac Morgan on Texas hitters: ‘I don’t know what they had, but the hotel breakfast better make it again in the morning’

Texas pitcher Mac Morgan hopes the Longhorns hitters can continue to find the fuel they did Saturday in the Women’s College World Series. They earned a 10-0 run-rule win against Florida behind three home runs and 10 total hits.

Speaking postgame with Alyssa Lang of the SEC Network, Morgan was asked about the big day from the Texas bats. Lang asked what they had for breakfast to lead to such a day, which led to a hilarious response from the Longhorns star.

“I don’t know, but the hotel breakfast better make it again in the morning,” she said.

Texas began the onslaught with hits from two of its three leadoff batters to jump out to a 1-0 advantage. From there, the Longhorns scored their second run when Katie Stewart doubled to right field. Alyssa Washington later homered to bring in three more runs to end the inning.

Texas would go scoreless across the next two innings before again catching fire in the fourth. Mia Scott got things started with a solo homer to increase the lead to 6-0. Stewart would later bring the dagger with a three-run shot to make it 9-0 and put the pressure on the Florida offense to respond.

However, the Longhorns defense would once again answer the call. Morgan went on to record the final three outs, finishing with five strikeouts and only one hit allowed across five innings.

“I was producing for my defense,” she said. “I was on tonight. That was definitely a thing. But I’m just getting ground balls for my defense, letting them work and they showed up for me. All-round, offense, defense, so it was my job to show up for them and I think I did just that.”

With the victory, Texas will move on to face the winner between Stanford and UCLA, who are set to face off on Sunday. The Longhorns now have a day off before they will next play, and will aim to use that to their advantage.

“Super Regionals, every game was a fight so we knew it was — we had our backs against the wall,” Morgan said. “It was gonna be the same thing here. You lose two and you’re done. If you lose one you’re in a hard bracket to get to the top. So we’re just fighting for our lives now and generally just having fun. Getting our seniors here is amazing and everyone wanted that for them. We’ve known each other and we’re ready for this.”
