Raphael Varane reacts to Real Madrid Champions League win as Manchester United exit looms

Manchester United-owned Jadon Sancho suffered heartbreak in the Champions League final as Real Madrid beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0.

United’s Champions League campaign was a disaster, finishing bottom of a group featuring Bayern Munich, Galatasaray and FC Copenhagen.

European action was done and dusted for United by December, so fans just had to sit and watch on as Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund reached the final.

Jadon Sancho was on show alongside former ex-United midfielder Marcel Sabitzer as Dortmund looked to upset the La Liga champions.

Despite a spirited Dortmund performance, including a first-half with missed chances aplenty, Real once again came as the European champions.

Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Junior scored to give Real yet another Champions League crown and leave Dortmund to reel after another Wembley final defeat.

Raphael Varane reacts to Real Madrid win

The win gives Carlo Ancelotti a staggering fifth Champions League title win and everybody connected with Real Madrid will be on cloud nine right now.

That includes former Real players who may have moved on now but have tasted plenty of European success with them in the past.

Raphael Varane is a perfect example of that with the United defender winning the Champions League four times during his time in Madrid.

Varane is now in the final weeks of his time with United as his contract finishes at the end of this month.

The French centre back was given quite the send-off as United won the FA Cup last week and he was back at Wembley again on Saturday.

Varane took to Instagram to show that he was at Wembley to cheer on Real alongside his son Ruben.

‘Hala Madrid again and again!!’ said Varane as he showed footage of Real players celebrating.

‘The 15th is already here’ he added, highlighting that Real have now won the European Cup or Champions League 15 times in their incredible history.

From winning a trophy last week to celebrating his former club winning one this week, Varane is having quite the start to his summer.

Why isn’t Varane at Euro 2024?

The attention now turns to the European Championships, but Varane won’t be in action.

France have already named their squad and the likes of Benjamin Pavard, Dayot Upamecano, Jules Kounde, William Saliba and Ibrahima Konate offer exceptional centre back options for Didier Deschamps.

Varane is nowhere to be seen though and that is because the outgoing United defender has already announced his international retirement.

The 31-year-old decided to back away from international action in February 2023, just two months after France lost the World Cup final to Argentina.

That means Varane will again be cheering on former teammates as they go for glory – though many United fans will be hoping that England can spoil the party this summer.
