Arsenal learn Benjamin Sesko decision as Jamie Carragher raises ‘problem’

A round-up of the latest Arsenal news as Jamie Carragher spots a ‘problem’ in Mikel Arteta’s squad and a Champions League giant plots the transfer of a Gunners player.

Benjamin Sesko would snub Chelsea for Arsenal without the guarantee of minutes

RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko would snub a transfer to Chelsea in favour of joining Arsenal even if Mikel Arteta does not guarantee him minutes. That is according to Dean Jones, who reports that the attacker is on board with a switch to north London in the summer window.

Arsenal and Chelsea are fighting to sign Sesko to strengthen their strike forces as he penned 14 goals in 31 Bundesliga games this season. The 21-year-old also found the back of a net 11 times in only 2024. Marco Rose even gave Sesko 14 of his 17 starts after the turn of the year.

Sesko understands that he would once again be fighting for his position by agreeing to get a transfer to Arsenal. But it is a sacrifice he is prepared to make despite Chelsea seeing the RB Leipzig forward as a cheaper attacking alternative to SSC Napoli marksman, Victor Osimhen.

AC Milan explore a transfer for Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus

Champions League giants AC Milan are exploring a transfer for Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus. That is according to Sport Italia, which reports that the Rossoneri are looking into potential targets who can improve their attack under Paulo Fonseca having parted with Stefano Pioli.

But the San Siro side would struggle to secure Jesus’ transfer unless Arsenal agree to afford AC Milan a mutually beneficial deal. The Serie A staple cannot afford to come close to what the Gunners pay the Brazilian. Arsenal gave Jesus a £265k-a-week contract to seal a move.

So, if Arsenal want to sell Jesus, they would have to accept a lowball bid for AC Milan to win any race. Otherwise, the Rossoneri would rely on the Gunners accepting a loan deal for the 27-year-old. AC Milan want the striker to aid their bid for an eighth Champions League title.

Jamie Carragher thinks Arsenal’s attack is a ‘problem’ for their Premier League title hopes

Liverpool hero Jamie Carragher thinks Arsenal’s attack is a ‘problem’ and will harm their bid to deny Manchester City another Premier League title next season. The Gunners ended the 2023/24 campaign just two points shy of the Citizens but remain without a title in 20 years.

Carragher claims Pep Guardiola having players like Phil Foden, Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne at his disposal gives the Etihad Stadium outfit a huge advantage. Foden won the PFA and Premier League Player of the Season awards with 19 of Manchester City’s 96 goals.

Haaland even hit home 27 to secure the Golden Boot, while Bukayo Saka was Arsenal’s top scorer after netting 16 of their 91 goals. Only Manchester City outscored the Gunners over the entire season, too. But Carragher feels Arteta must sign a top striker to stand a chance.

“I think they will be up there again,” Carragher told the Metro about Arsenal’s chances. “In some ways, throughout a lot of the season, they were the best team. When you look at the goals they scored, the xG difference and how strong they were defensively.

“The problem [for Arsenal] is that Man City have the best players. They have individuals like Foden, Haaland and De Bruyne. Arsenal just don’t have that quality at that end of the pitch. That’s why they need a top attacking player.”
