Watch wonderkid ‘Gers target’ humiliate 55-winner and score last-minute Cup Final stunner

Relebohile Mofokeng has just shown one ex-Rangers star why there is so much hype around him in South Africa.

The 19-year-old midfielder has burst onto the scene with Orlando Pirates this season and Rangers are said to be leading the hunt for the teenager.

Having spent some time on trial with Wolverhampton Wanderers, it’s clear there are a few eyes on Relebohile Mofokeng as he navigates South African football.

And now – ahead of his maiden call up to the Bafana Bafana squad – Mofokeng might just have signed off from Orlando Pirates in devastating Cup Final style.

Mofokeng nutmegs ex-Rangers title winner

If Rangers looked at the line-ups of both Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns before the Nedbank Cup Final, they’d have noticed two things.

Firstly that the teenage sensation so strongly linked with a move to Ibrox wasn’t in the starting XI for Orlando Pirates.

And secondly, Bongani Zungu, formerly of this parish, was lining up for the Sundowns.

Zungu, now 31, famously spent a season on loan at Rangers during the 55-winning 20/21 campaign.

Signed in October on a short term deal from Amiens – allowed due to a pro-COVID extension to the transfer window – Zungu didn’t really get a sniff as the Gers went unbeaten.

More remembered for being the oldest member of the COVID-five breach which led to multiple suspensions, Zungu returned to Amiens before moving to Mamelodi a year later in 2022.

Now, the ex-Rangers star has just found himself bamboozled by Relebohile Mofokeng.

In a stunning, last-minute Cup Final winner, Mofokeng finds himself free with space in the box in the 94th minute of the game.

As Bongani Zungu bears down on him, Relebohile nicks the ball through the ex-Rangers star’s legs before toe-poking a winner into the far corner.

The Nedbank Cup is South Africa’s premier knockout competition, essentially like the Scottish Cup here, and this was the final game of the season.

It means Mofokeng might just have signed off of Orlando Pirates duties with a last minute Cup Final winner.

The Rangers target’s goal capped a stunning comeback for Pirates, Patrick Maswanganyi scoring an equaliser from the penalty sot after Themba Zwane had scored for Sundowns.

The victory ensured that the Orlando Pirates retained the trophy from last season, lifting it for the 10th time in their history.

Relebohile Rangers transfer latest

It’s not exactly clear where we’re at with this link.

Rangers have been mentioned a couple of times with an Andy Devils report in the Scottish Sun still the latest clear update we’ve had on the kid.

The Gers are set for one of the busiest transfer windows the club has had in a generation with a real change in direction and several players from across the globe targeted.

These mostly come from regions in Africa or Latin America as Rangers look to ramp up the club’s player trading ambitions.

Relebohile Mofokeng certainly looks like a big talent and Rangers fans will be encouraged by his impressive return of five goals and six assists from 38 games this season.

One former Orlando Pirates stars has also been encouraging the kid to seize his chance in Europe and follow in the footsteps of a former Ajax legend.

At the same time, Mofokeng’s manager has urged caution.
