'Player': Tottenham youngster applauds Arsenal forward on Instagram after international display

Mikey Moore was amongst those to send a message to Ethan Nwaneri on Instagram after the Arsenal youngster scored in England’s defeat to Italy at the Under-17 European Championships.

The Three Lions are heading home after an agonising loss in the quarter-final in Cyprus, with the Azzurri edging the tie 5-4 on penalties.

It was Ethan Nwaneri who had given England the lead, with the Arsenal starlet doing brilliantly to find the top corner after cutting back onto his left foot.

It had been Mikey Moore who created the opportunity, with the Tottenham youngster – who made his senior Spurs debut in the loss to Manchester City in May – going on a superb solo run before finding Nwaneri.

Unfortunately for England, Italy would equalise before the break, and would be flawless from the penalty spot to book their spot in the semi-final where they will face Denmark.

As things stand, Nwaneri and Moore are amongst the top goalscorers in the tournament, with the Tottenham starlet scoring four and Nwaneri one behind.

Arsenal weighing up youngster’s next move ahead of next season

It is going to be interesting to see what Arsenal’s plans for Nwaneri are ahead of next season, with the 17-year-old signing a professional contract earlier this year.

Of course, the bar is now a lot higher for Arsenal youngsters looking to come through and break into Arteta’s plans than when the likes of Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe were knocking on the door. Players such as Charlie Patino look set to move on after simply coming through at Arsenal at the wrong time.

Arsenal are considering loaning Nwaneri out next year, and that may make most sense given that they will be desperate to win the Premier League title. He is unlikely to get a raft of opportunities given how perfect the Gunners clearly need to be.
