Report: John Textor now ‘in talks’ with key figures to try and force through Everton takeover

Everton seem no closer to a conclusion on their drawn-out takeover process, despite nearly ten months of negotiations.

777 Partners are undoubtedly the culprits of this unrelenting saga, having been handed every conceivable extension and piece of information needed.

However, seemingly without the funds in place or the people to back the project, their efforts were always bound to be futile.

Fortunately, with John Textor’s new interest in Everton, there might be cause for renewed hope.

Especially after this latest update…

John Textor is in dialogue with the Premier League

The report, written by journalist Alan Nixon on his Patreon, is a long one.

It reads, as slightly cut down: ‘John Textor is in talks with the Premier League to get their blessing to have a major share in Everton AND Crystal Palace.

‘The American has made contact with the game’s chiefs to outline his plans and request an extension of time to sell his 43 per cent of Palace.

‘Textor is now the leading candidate to save Everton and can raise the money to buy our part of the Toffees and throw them a financial lifeline.

‘However current rules prevent Textor having an interest in two clubs at the same time. He hopes to be granted a grace period.

‘Textor wants to dispose of a large but minority stake in Palace. He is willing to take a hit on the deal to speed the process.

‘But there could well be an overlap and time is vital for Everton who have to keep financing the club until they find a new owner. Player sales will be unavoidable if that goes on too long and that is something Textor wants to avoid.

‘The Premier League would demand that Textor takes no interest in Palace affairs in the meantime but that should not be a problem although ironically he was behind the appointment of Oliver Glasner.

‘Everton are also talking to other bidders and Textor is up against the clock to complete his audacious double deal.’

An owner who wants to be at Everton

It is refreshing to see someone seemingly so devout, and with all of his intentions set on acquiring Everton.

Given the years of disinterest and ambiguity that Farhad Moshiri has recently exhibited towards his club and its fanbase, to have Textor, who has already outlined his grand plans to assume control in Merseyside, once again reaffirm that interest, is nice.

It is always a comforting thought to know that the person in charge of the club actually wants to be there, sees success in a long-term plan, and has a history of overseeing such steady progression.

His time at Crystal Palace, and the stability they have maintained, is the kind of mid-table mediocrity that Evertonians have been left craving now after years of relegation battles.

Moshiri’s missteps have led them to this point, and now it could be Textor’s ambitions that drag them out of it and into a brighter future.
