Michael McGovern shares what Adam Idah has been telling him about the Celtic experience compared to Norwich

Goalkeeper Michael McGovern believes Adam Idah has been experiencing fan interaction on a whole other level than what he’d been used to before joining Celtic.

Idah moved to the Bhoys on a half-season loan from Norwich City in January and made a sizable contribution to trophy successes in the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup.

Racking up a nine-goal total, a clutch of those were decisive in winning points against Motherwell, Hibernian and Rangers, while his last-minute effort in last week’s derby final win will be an iconic moment remembered for years.

The prospect of him joining Celtic permanently will be much-discussed throughout the coming summer, though the champions could be left waiting on a Norwich decision.

Brendan Rodgers has made it clear he’d like to sign the Republic of Ireland international and, having spoken to Idah, McGovern reckons he’d jump at the chance too.

Adam Idah enjoys ‘big change’ at Celtic

The goalkeeper – who featured in last week’s charity game at Celtic Park – said [Daily Record]: “Having spoken to Adam, the daily interaction he’s had with fans in Glasgow is nothing like what he was used to in Norwich. The people are just different. Norwich people are reserved and keep themselves to themselves. In Glasgow they’re more open and more likely to come up and approach you. It’s a different culture. So that has been a big change for Adam.

“And I know that he has loved it up here because I’ve spoken to him regularly. I’m sure there’s a big part of him that wants to come back to Celtic next term. There are so many factors. The two clubs have to agree a fee then there are wages to sort out. It’s complicated. But I know he loved playing for the football club so Celtic have a great starting point.

“He has put himself in a great position. The Champions League will be a big draw for Adam as well. Celtic are a wonderful club and if he’s got the opportunity to sign for them permanently I’m sure it will be of big interest to him.

“It can be stressful when this type of scenario happens. Until someone accepts a bid you can’t do anything. You’re not in control. Adam just has to wait to see how negotiations go. And after what he has done at Celtic there will be interest from other clubs. Norwich have a new manager and he might want Adam to come back and be his main striker in the new campaign.”

There’s a long way to go on potential Idah return

As McGovern notes, there are lots of moving parts here and Norwich have already indicated they’ll be assessing Idah in pre-season. Until that happens, this potential move will go on the back burner.

Rodgers wants him, Idah has loved his time in Glasgow and Celtic have the money to do business for him. The only unknown is the long-term intent of the Canaries.

Given they hold Idah’s contract until 2028, that makes them the most important cog of these machinations. However, Idah’s desire will be a factor and if he wants his move to Scotland, it could be hard to deny.
