'Changes our thinking': Derby County coach explains what will now be 'important' in their transfer plans

Derby County coach Matt Hale has explained what will now be ‘important’ in their transfer plans this summer.

Derby County made use of the loan window during the 2023/24 season, sending ten players out to their temporary homes.

The Rams mainly prioritised moves to the National League below, sending players to the likes of Braintree Town, Rochdale and Mickleover.

Derby’s promotion to the Championship is now likely to change their outlook on the loan window, with many young players now unlikely to be able to make that big step up and could instead go elsewhere for the season.

The Midlands club enjoyed great success, particularly with Dajaune Brown, last term.

The striker joined Gateshead in January and scored 10 goals in 20 games, helping them to win the FA Trophy.

Brown is one of a number of exciting prospects atPride Park, and academy manager Matt Hale has admitted that utilising loan deals will be very ‘important’ for the team.

Derby County will make sure to utilise the loan market

Speaking to Derbyshire Live, he said: “It (Brown’s loan) changes our thinking.

“What we have done in the last few months is utilise the loan market – particularly for Daj – in a way that we think it can be really helpful. Some of our players won’t need a loan and can go straight into the first team squad and hopefully make an impact.

“Others might need a different experience if the right club comes up. I think it’s definitely part of our plan to utilise that loan market but it needs to be the right one. The right style and game time is important. Full-time loans now we’re in the Championship become really important too.”

Will Dajaune Brown be in the senior squad?

Dajaune Brown was already highly-rated at Moor Farm, but his recent loan spell at Gateshead has really thrust him into the limelight.

The teenager was only playing at National League level, but he has surely earned himself a chance at senior football in the Championship.

Brown’s form has already earned interest from the likes of Sunderland and Newcastle United, but the Rams should definitely be putting a lot of effort into keeping him around.

Derby already need to bolster their attacking ranks after offloading Dwight Gayle and Martyn Waghorn, and while Brown won’t be ready to be first choice, he could definitely make an impact coming off the bench.
